Coarse metallics and a jutted shoulder together sing a steely romance and conjure a rain-soaked Paris street in the pit of night. These elements, a staple of the Balmain's Spring and Fall 09 RTW collections, have penetrated this season's Australian RAFW shows. Camilla and Marc, Dion Lee, Bec and Bridge and Ellery also also favoured the Herve Leger body-conscious silhouette wrapped in a corseted Alaïa-esque belt.
Is this a rebuttal to a local fashion stereotype? Its like the commercial Australian fashion landscape has some sort of obsessive compulsive tendency to subdue and understate, but here these girls are bound in a sense of anarchic ceremony.
