I watched The Wackness a few nights ago and subsequently relapsed into a lingering preoccupation with everything 90s. New york in summer, oh god that soundtrack, childhood memories, awing older kids at school into hip hop. Wishing I could talk like that without self-knowing...dopeness. wackness. i got mad love for you shorty, that's on the real.

Balmanic [Rosemount Australian Fashion Week spring/summer 2009/10]
Coarse metallics and that Balmain shoulder together sing a steely romance and conjure a rain-soaked Paris street in a pit of night. These elements, a staple of the aforementioned French fashion house's Spring and Fall 09 RTW collections, have clearly penetrated this season's Australian RAFW shows; into Camilla and Marc, Dion Lee, Bec and Bridge and Ellery. Also throughout is the now-favoured Herve Leger body conscious silhouette bound to the body with corseted Alaïa-esque belts.
Potentially, what comes of all of this is a rebuttal to a local fashion stereotype. The commercial Australian fashion landscape, which has a tendency to submit to a compulsive urge to subdue and understate, there is inspired a sense of anarchic ceremony. This refined luxe-grunge will be around for a while. How long until Camilla and Marc's brassy, black-capped jacket is distilled into some ill-fitting, costumey, overpriced Bardot feature piece. Until then, I'll keep trying to find justification for buying one of these fancy, hot space robot wears and pray for a future decadent eurotrip on which to wear it.
